The provincial forces of Maryland consisted of five companies of men during height of the French and Indian war. Despite many disagreements in the Maryland Assembly immediately prior to and during the Seven Years War in the colonies, Maryland raised five companies of men and constructed one of the more significant fortifications of its time. Even with the immediate proximity to Forks of the Ohio, Maryland's provincial troops seems to never exceeded 500 men not including militia and indians. These provincials garrisoned Fort Cumberland and Fort Frederick, participated in Generals Braddocks and General Forbes expedition to Fort Duquesne, and ranged the Maryland frontier protecting its inhabitants.
